A series of new fixes to the A. Piatt Andrew Bridge — already undergoing a multi-year reconstruction — closed Route 128 South over the Annisquam River three times yesterday.
"There were some issues with bridge rubber expansion joint that required immediate repairs," said Massachusetts Transportation Department spokesman Adam Hurtubise. "They have been rectified."
The three closures — with the first starting after 9 a.m. — averaged 10 minutes each. Motorists were advised to use the Cut Bridge over the Blynman Canal to reach Route 128 at Essex Avenue during the closures.
Hurtubise said normal bridge construction and traffic patterns are expected to resume today, but the potential for additional construction-related delays could not be entirely ruled out.
